Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged former Michigan State University basketball player Keith Appling, 24, of Detroit, with Fleeing and Eluding Third Degree, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resisting and Obstructing Police and Felony Firearm.

On August 28, 2016 at 9:15 p.m., Appling was driving a car in the area of Seven Mile and Russell in Detroit when the police stopped Appling for a traffic violation. When he rolled down his window and was asked by a police officer for his identification, it is alleged that Appling gave his identification and drove his car away while the officer still had his hand in the window. The officer and his partner pursued Appling and arrested him at State Fair and Orleans. It is further alleged that Appling threw a bag from the car. The police found the bag in the area of Seven Mile and Russell with Appling's full name on it and handgun inside the bag.

Appling has been arraigned in 36th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 6, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. before 36th District Court Judge Deborah Langston. He will be represented by attorney Otis Culpepper.
