Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old juvenile male (DOB: 07/07/2000) in connection with the fatal car crash that occurred on September 25, 2016 at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Whitehill Street, north of Casino Avenue in Detroit.

A 16-year-old male juvenile respondent was driving a car with two female passengers on residential street. It is alleged that the respondent did not have a driver’s license and was driving at a high rate of speed in a residential area with a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour. It is further alleged that he lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. Medics pronounced the front seat passenger, Eliza Fletcher, aka Jadeliza Wright-McClain*, 15, of Detroit, dead at the scene. The back seat passenger, a 16-year-old Detroit female, survived the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The juvenile respondent was also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and has since been discharged this week. He was charged as a juvenile and arraigned in the late afternoon Tuesday, September 27, 2016 on the following counts: (1) Manslaughter with a Motor Vehicle; (2) Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function for the second passenger; (3) Moving Violation Causing Death; and (4) Moving Violation Causing Serious Impairment Of a Body Function). He is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Facility on a $25,000/10% bond pending his next court appearance. His pre-trial is scheduled for 9:00AM on October 3, 2016 before the Honorable Christopher Dingell. A no-contact order is in place if he should make bond.

*Victim Jadeliza Wright McClain, has been identified by her brother in news reports as Eliza Fletcher. Police reports list her as Jadeliza Wright McCain.
