Homicide of Melvindale Woman – WCPO continues to review warrant requests for a juvenile male and an adult male. There will not be a charging decision in either case today.

Ikeie Smith – Today Smith waived both his preliminary examinations in Redford District Court today and was remanded to jail. His arraignment in the information in Wayne County Circuit Court is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 9:00 AM.

Homicide of Melvindale Woman – WCPO continues to review warrant requests for a juvenile male and an adult male. There will not be a charging decision in either case today. The charging decision and the arraignment are expected tomorrow.

Gregory Green – Dearborn Heights Defendant charged in connection with the homicides of his two children, his two step-children, as well as torturing and assaulting his wife. Today the Probable Cause Conference was held in 20th District Court. The Defendant was referred for competency and criminal responsibility. No other court dates were scheduled by the court at this time.

Faith Green has asked WCPO to inform the press that she will not be making any statements or granting interviews. We trust that members of the press will respect her privacy during this difficult time

Prosecutor Worthy on Facebook Charging Decision by Attorney General Schuette

Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, "It is my understanding that the Michigan Attorney General has charged only one of the multiple Facebook cases. That is certainly his prerogative. We stand by our decision in that case and we will continue to advocate for needed changes in the applicable statutes."

Two Charged in Homicide of Melvindale Woman

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jacob Barnes, 23 (DOB: 10/13/1992), of Lincoln Park and Jeremy Lee, 16 (DOB: 8/24/2000), of Detroit in connection with the homicide of Amanda Lynn Benton, 29, of Melvindale. Defendant Lee will be charged as an adult offender.

It is alleged that on September 26, 2016 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Barnes and Lee fatally assaulted Ms. Benton at Woodmere and Cabot in Detroit. She was approximately five months pregnant and beaten in the head, neck and abdomen. It is further alleged that the defendants placed her in the trunk of her car and drove her to an abandoned house in the 8000 block of Vanderbilt in Detroit where they set her body on fire. The defendants drove off in her car and abandoned it in Southwest Detroit.

On September 30, 2016, an investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Jacob Barnes and Lee in connection with the homicide of Ms. Benton.

Both defendants have been charged with Felony Murder, First Degree Murder, Assault of a Pregnant Individual Causing Death of a Fetus and Mutilation of a Dead Body. They were arraigned on October 6, 2016 in 36th District Court before Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 13, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 18, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.
