Highland Park Woman Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting Incident

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ebonie R. Dixson, 32 (DOB: 7/29/84), of Highland Park, has been charged in connection with a non-fatal shooting incident. On September 20, 2016 at 6:45 p.m. at a home in the 17800 block of Fleming in Detroit, the defendant was removing her personal belongings from the location with her 28-year-old brother when she had a verbal argument with the 27-year-old woman who lived in the home. The defendant, who is employed as a security guard, was dressed in her uniform when she is alleged to have taken her weapon out of the holster, pointed it at her brother and the woman and fired the gun three times into the air. No one was injured. The defendant drove away from the scene immediately after the incident.

On October 12, 2016, Dixson was charged with two counts of Felonious Assault and one count of Felony Firearm and placed under arrest at approximately 5:00 p.m. by Detroit police officers. She is expected to be arraigned today at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.

Ikeie Smith – Redford Defendant charged in multiple rape cases. The defendant was arraigned on the information on five of his cases today before Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway (16-008761 and 16-008652 – Redford; 16-008794 – Garden City; 16-008796 and 16-008796 – Dearborn). His calendar conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 4, 2016.

Smith has three more arraignments on the information, two from Dearborn Heights and one from Inkster, scheduled for next Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Hathaway. His last exam will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Allen Park.

Detroit Woman Charged with Carrying A Concealed Weapon Fatal Shooting Found to be in Lawful Self-Defense

Prosecutor Worthy has charged Dominique Davis, 30 (DOB: 12/12/85), of Detroit with Carrying A Concealed Weapon, but will not charge her in the fatal shooting death of Melvin Johnson, 52, of Detroit. On October 11, 2016 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Davis was working as a security guard at a location in the 260 block of Merton in Detroit when she observed Johnson stealing building materials from the location and loading them into his truck. She blocked his truck in with her car, after a heated conversation Johnson agreed she could get the stolen items from his truck. When she attempted to retrieve the items from the back of Johnson’s his truck Johnson put it in reverse and drove in the direction of Davis. Davis fired her handgun one time, wounding Johnson in his right shoulder area. Davis immediately reported the incident to the police and waited until they arrived at the scene. Medics conveyed Johnson to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Based upon a thorough review of the evidence it has been determined that Davis acted in lawful self-defense. Under the law of self defense a person must have an honest and reasonable belief that the use of deadly force was necessary to prevent imminent death or imminent great bodily harm. In this case based upon a thorough review of the evidence it has been determined that Davis’s acted in lawful self- defense.

In this case it is alleged that Davis did not have a permit to lawfully carry a weapon. Detroit police previously advised that Davis would be arraigned in 36th District Court today at 10:30 a.m., however, she was arraigned in 36th District Court yesterday afternoon before Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 20, at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.
