Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Keith Appling, 24 (DOB: 2/13/92), of Detroit, with Carrying a Concealed Weapon (a five year felony), Possession of a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle (a two year misdemeanor) and Possession of Marijuana (a one year misdemeanor). Appling is a former Michigan State basketball player, currently playing in the NBA.

On May 1, 2016 at approximately 6:47 p.m., Dearborn police officers were dispatched to a club in the 12900 block of Michigan Avenue because security observed a man pulling a firearm out of the trunk of a car in the parking lot. The police observed a car in the parking lot matching the description given by security and approached Keith Appling, who was in the driver's seat of the car. As a result of the police search of the car, it is alleged that Appling had a handgun under the driver's seat, a small amount of suspected marijuana inside the car and a loaded weapon in the trunk. Appling was placed under arrest at the scene.

Appling was arraigned this afternoon in 19th District Court in Dearborn. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 6, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Hultgren. The defendant received a $5,000 personal bond.
