Evans Administration breaks bread at Inkster's Zaman International

For Wayne County employees, their jobs are more than just a paycheck. They're an opportunity to serve their community and the people who live in Wayne County. That attitude led to about 15 members of Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans's staff volunteering at Zaman International in Inkster. Our team spent an afternoon in November in Zaman's new kitchen cooking food for local women and children in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Additionally, Executive Evans joined other community leaders at Zaman's grand opening "bread cutting" celebration for their kitchen.

Founded by Najah Bazzy, a clinical nurse, in 1996, Zaman is committed to addressing basic needs and empowering marginalized women and children through relief and development programs. In addition to their commercial kitchen providing nutritious food to local residents, the non-profit's 40,500 square-foot facility provides crisis assistance, vocational training and life skills programs. In 2016, Zaman served 25,194 individuals, distributed 90,000 pounds of food, collected 288,000 pounds of clothing, provided job skills and literacy instruction to more than 70 women, and gave 268 winter coats and 895 school supply-filled backpacks to local children.Zaman exemplifies Wayne County's welcoming spirit and commitment to service. Executive Evans' team was honored to assist them with their mission and looks forward to supporting them in the future.
