Today Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Darian Winfield*, 18 (DOB: 1/28/97), of Detroit, in connection with a non-fatal assault of a 48-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman. On December 13, 2015 at 12:05 a.m. in the 1400 block of Cadieux in Grosse Pointe Park, it is alleged that Winfield approached the woman as she was walking, spoke to her briefly and attacked her with a sharp object on her face, neck, and upper chest area. After the attack, the defendant fled the scene. The woman called 911, and police and emergency medical personnel took her to a local hospital where she received treatment for her wounds and was later released.

Winfield has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and was arraigned today in Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court. His probable cause conference is on January 27, 2016 and his preliminary examination is on February 3, 2016.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The successful prosecution of the alleged actions of this defendant will bring closure to several crimes in Wayne County."

Winfield is currently held in the Wayne County Jail on a one million dollar bond for the following charges: Home Invasion First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct in connection with a December 30, 2015 attack on a Detroit woman.

Winfield is a person of interest in connection with a 17-year-old victim that died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from injuries sustained during an assault that occurred on January 7, 2016 in Detroit. The Detroit Police Department continues to investigate the case.

*Note: Detroit Police Reports for the December 30, 2015, Home Invasion and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct listed Winfield's age as 19.
