Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Curtis Bradford, 27 (DOB: 7/1/1989), of Detroit, in connection with a carjacking and robbery that ended in a police chase in Detroit. On March 4, 2017 at approximately 5:15 p.m., Bradford was a passenger in his 21-year-old female cousin’s car along with another female passenger when they stopped at a gas station located in the 12100 block of Livernois. When Bradford’s cousin refused to drive him to another location, it is alleged that he became upset, pulled out a hand gun and fired a shot, causing her to flee the car. It is further alleged that the defendant drove the car dragging the other female a short distance before stopping to let her out. The police were able to locate the defendant in the stolen car but he refused to stop for the police. He led the police in a car chase that ended when the defendant crashed the car.

Bradford is charged with Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Extortion, Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property-Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Weapon with Unlawful Intent, Fleeing and Eluding 3rd, Felon in Possession and Felony Firearm Second Degree*.

Bradford was arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Laura A. Echartea. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 13, 2017; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 20, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
