Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Mack Sheckels, III, 22, (DOB: 09/29/1994), of Detroit, in connection with discharging a firearm at two Detroit police officers.

On September 22, 2017 at approximately 7:55 p.m., it is alleged that two Detroit police officers on patrol near Midland and Manor Streets in Detroit, observed a vehicle driven at a high rate of speed disregard a yield sign. Overhead lights on the police vehicle were activated and the vehicle stopped at a nearby intersection. It is further alleged that Sheckels, exited the vehicle from the driver's side rear door, fired one shot and fled the scene on foot. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant.

Sheckels has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, two counts of Felonious Assault, one count of Felony Firearm, Resisting and Obstructing a police officer and Reckless Use of a Firearm*. He was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
