Detroit Pair Charged in Assault of DPD Officer

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Mario Delgado, 23 (DOB:07/20/1993), and Erica Garcia, 27 (DOB:04/30/90), both of Detroit, in connection with an assault on a male Detroit police officer. On July 6, 2017, at 12:10 a.m. at a location in front of 3650 block of Clippert, several occupants of a car were being investigated by DPD officers. While the investigation was taking place and the occupants were ordered to leave the car, it is alleged that Delgado rushed one of the officers and bumped him in the chest. It is alleged that Garcia went into a house on Clippert, retrieved a stun gun and deployed it on the officer that Delgado bumped in the chest. The defendants were both placed under arrest at the scene.

Defendant Delgado has been charged with Resisting and Obstructing Police*.

Defendant Garcia has been charged with: Felonious Assault, Possession of a Taser and Resisting & Obstructing Police*.

Delgado and Garcia were arraigned last Saturday in 34 th District Court in Romulus. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 14, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before 36th District Court Judge Lydia Nance-Adams. Defendant Delgado received a $25,000 cash/surety/10% bond; Defendant Garcia received a $50,000 cash/surety/10% bond.
