Grosse Pointe Woods Woman Charged In Fatal Crash Involving Fedex Truck
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Myah Marea Batts, 26, (DOB: 07/20/1990) of Grosse Pointe Woods, in connection with the February 7, 2017 fatal car accident that occurred at Newport Street and Chandler Park Drive in Detroit.
It is alleged on February 7, 2017 at approximately 2:27 p.m., the defendant was driving her vehicle on Newport Street at a high rate of speed. It is further alleged that she disregarded a stop sign at Chandler Park Drive and struck FedEx truck driver Rodrick Motley, 48. The collision forced the FedEx vehicle on to a grassy median and the victim to be ejected from the vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the car crash.
Batts has been charged with Murder - Second Degree, OWI Causing Death, DWLS Causing Death, and Reckless Driving Causing Death.* The defendant was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. this morning. The probable cause conference is scheduled for February 23, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 2, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis-Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
*The charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
