Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Mohammad Kamruzzaman, 40, (DOB: 6/15/75), of Hamtramck, in connection with a non-fatal car crash that injured a boy as he walked across the street. On January 28, 2016 at approximately 7:30 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant was driving a cab at Jefferson and Alter and, as the light was turning green, turned into a designated bike lane and hit a nine-year-old boy. After striking the child, he fled from the scene. The child sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification of the defendant who has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident. The defendant was arraigned today in 36th District Court before Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 2, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 9, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Langston. The defendant received a $20,000.00 personal bond. A photo of the defendant is attached.
