Mother Charged in Death of 8-year-old Daughter
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Semeria Aminita Greene, 26, (DOB 10/4/86) of Detroit, with the homicide of her daughter, Tameria Greene, 8, (DOB 01/02/04). On December 30, 2012, at approximately 2:42 a.m., the police received a radio run to an apartment in the 2270 block of Larned in Detroit. Upon arrival, Tameria Greene was found unresponsive on the floor suffering from a stab wound to the chest area. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. It is alleged that the child was stabbed by her mother.
Semeria Greene has been charged with Felony Murder which carries a penalty of mandatory life in prison without parole and Child Abuse First Degree which carries a 15 year maximum penalty.
"This is only the second day of the year and we are charging a parent with a child homicide. This case is made even more profoundly sad because today would have been Tameria's 9th birthday," said Prosecutor Worthy.
Greene was represented at the arraignment by Attorney Cornelius Pitts. She was remanded to jail and will have a preliminary examination on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at 36th District Court in Detroit.
