Detroit Woman Charged in Fatal I-75 Crash

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Samiya Vana Speed, 22 (DOB: 01/08/1996), of Detroit, in connection with a fatal highway crash that killed construction worker David Snell, 57, of Bay City. On June 14, 2018 at 1:45 a.m., on I-75 near Warren in Detroit, it is alleged that the defendant was under the influence of alcohol in a construction zone, caused a collision that killed Mr. Snell and also caused the defendant's car to rollover. She was placed under arrest by Michigan State Police troopers at the scene.

Defendant Speed has been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Causing Death; Driving with License Suspended Causing Death; Moving Violation (Careless Driving) in a Work Zone Causing Death, and Operating While Intoxicated Second Offense.*

Speed was arraigned on June 18, 2018 before Magistrate Bari Blake Wood in 36th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for June 26, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 2, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $50,000/10% bond, with an alcohol tether if she posts bond.

Mark Bessner - Former MSP trooper charged in the fatal ATV crash that killed Damon Grimes. Today Judge Margaret Van Houten adjourned the Final Conference at the request of the defense until August 24, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.; the trial has been re-scheduled until October 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.

Flat Rock Man Charged in Double Murder Case

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Thomas Edward Lane, Jr., 57, (DOB: 09/18/1960), in connection with the homicides of Mark Allan Harris 56, and his wife Catherine Anne Markowski, all of Flat Rock, Michigan. Defendant Lane had been living in the home of his sister, Ms. Markowski, and his brother-in-law, Mr. Harris, for several months prior to their deaths.

On March 31, 2018 at 1:20 p.m., Flat Rock police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 24800 block of Chinook Court. Upon entry, the police observed the lifeless bodies of Mr. Harris and Ms. Markowski inside the home and pronounced them dead at the scene. It is alleged that Defendant Lane fatally shot both victims and fled the scene in their car. At 5:35 p.m. on the same day, the police observed the defendant driving the victims' car on Benson Street in Trenton. Michigan State Police placed him under arrest and confiscated a handgun from the car. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Defendant Lane is being charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Second Degree, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.*

He is expected to be arraigned in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven on Monday, June 25, 2018. Note: The court has not provided a time for the arraignment on Monday.

Three Charged in Dearborn Carjacking and Armed Robbery

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kimani Waiters, 22 (DOB: 09/03/1995), of Highland Park, Donte Davis, 26 (DOB: 06/22/1991) and Marquette Jones, 25 (DOB: 04/13/1993) in connection with a carjacking and armed robbery. On June 20, 2018 at Hemlock and Ternes Streets in Dearborn, it is alleged that the three defendants committed an armed robbery and carjacking of a 32-year-old-male victim. Waiters is alleged to have driven the carjacked vehicle away, while Davis and Jones drove away in another vehicle.

A Dearborn officer received information about the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it at Williamson and Henn Streets in Dearborn. It is alleged that Waiters drove the vehicle towards officer and fired three to four shots through the windshield at him. The officer returned one shot. Neither the officer nor Waiters were hit or injured. Waiters drove away on Henn Street when he encountered another Dearborn police vehicle that collided with the car Waiters was driving. Waiters fled from the car on foot and was later arrested by the Dearborn officers while he was observed walking in an area near the carjacking. Investigation led to the arrest of Davis and Jones.

Waiters, Davis and Jones have all been charged with Carjacking and Armed Robbery.*

Waiters has also been charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Resisting and Obstructing Arrest, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.*

Davis has also been charged with Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm Second Offense.*

The defendants were arraigned late this afternoon in 19th District Court in Dearborn. The probable cause conference is scheduled for June 29th at 9:00 a.m and the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 6, 2018. Waiters and Davis were remanded to jail. Jones received a one million dollar bond.
