Steven Utash Beating Case - The preliminary examinations for Wonzey Saffold, James Davis and Latrez Cummings were held today before Judge Thomas Jackson and all three men were bound over for trial. Bruce Wimbush waived his preliminary examination and was also bound over today. The arraignment on the information will take place on April 28, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, located at 1441 St. Antoine in Detroit.

Harper Woods Woman Charged In Fatal Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged N'khia Jasmine Parris, 23 (3/15/91), of Harper Woods, with Open Murder in connection with the death of Ebony Price, 34, of Detroit. On April 20, 2014 at 11:30 p.m., Ms. Price walked over to the defendant's car while it was parked in the driveway of a home located in the 14000 block of Collingwood in Detroit. The two women had a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. After the altercation, it is alleged that Parris drove her car at a high rate of speed, fatally striking Ms. Price. The defendant fled the scene, but later surrendered herself to the Detroit Police Department. Ms. Price was privately taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Parris has been charged with Open Murder which carries a penalty of up to life in prison. She is expected to be arraigned this morning after 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court. Please confirm the arraignment time with the court.

Boyfriend Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Detroit Mother

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Lorenzo Franklin McNeil, 24 (2/16/90), in connection with the homicide of Charmanek Johnson, 31. The defendant and Ms. Johnson were boyfriend and girlfriend who sometimes lived together at her home in the 4030 block of Hazelwood. On April 21, 2014, the victim's grandmother called the police to Ms. Johnson's home because she had not heard from her granddaughter in three days. When the police entered the home, the victim was discovered dead in the upstairs of the home of multiple stab wounds. The victim's eight-month-old child was found in a crib upstairs, suffering from dehydration and severe diaper rash. The child was taken to a local hospital and received treatment. The defendant is not the father of the child. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of McNeil on April 22, 2014.

McNeil has been charged with: Murder First Degree Murder; Child Abuse First Degree; Child Abandonment and Larceny in a Building. The Detroit Police Department has informed us that arraignment on the warrant will take place today or on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at 36th District Court. Please confirm this time with the court, in case the case is moved up for the morning arraignments.

Lorenzo Franklin McNeil - The information that we received about the arraignment taking place today was in error. At some time yesterday in the afternoon, the defendant was arraigned and remanded on the charges before Magistrate Charles Anderson. He is scheduled for preliminary examination before Judge Ruth Carter on May 6, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.

Theodore Wafer - Dearborn Heights defendant charged in the fatal shooting death of Renisha McBride. Today Judge Timothy Kenny recused trial Judge Qiana Lillard because a male prosecutor handling the case had been listed as part of her campaign committee and had sold tickets to a fundraiser on her behalf. "The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will not appeal the ruling of Judge Kenny. We will request that the case be blind drawn to another judge," said Maria Miller. The case has been drawn to Judge Dana Hathaway and there will be a calendar conference Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

David B'Shouty - Windsor Constable charged with possessing cocaine when he crossed the border from Windsor, Canada to Detroit. The case was adjourned at the request of the defense because more time was needed to review the discovery materials. The new date is May 9, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.; the case will heard by Judge Michael Wagner.

Detroit Man Charged in Purse Snatching of 83-Year Old Woman

Today Javon Maurice Watson, 21 (10/23/92), was charged in connection with the purse snatching of an 83-year-old woman in the 20500 block of Mound Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 20, 2014. The victim had car trouble and pulled into a gas station. When she exited the station, it is alleged that the defendant offered to help her put anti-freeze in her car. When he completed the task, the victim offered him some money. He wanted more and grabbed her purse and fled the location. Police investigation led to the arrest of Watson.

He has been charged with Unarmed Robbery. Please contact the Detroit Police Department or the 36th District court for arraignment information.
