Chauncey Owens and Charles Jones - Defendants charged in the fatal shooting death of high school student Je'rean Blake. The opening statements in the case are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Richard Skutt.

Cass Tech High School Football Player - The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is currently reviewing a warrant request. This process involves interviewing witnesses and evaluating evidence. We do not expect to have a decision for several days. You will be updated when the review process is completed and a decision has been made.

Dearborn Heights Fatal Shooting of 11-year-old boy - On November 24, 2013, a 15-year-old juvenile boy was alleged to have been playing with a loaded handgun at his home in the 5600 block of Kingsbury when he fatally shot the 11-year-old son of his mother's boyfriend. The respondent has been charged as a juvenile with: (1) Manslaughter - (Aimed weapon without malice); (2) Careless Discharge of a Firearm Resulting in Death and (3) Felony Firearm. He will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Juvenile Detention Center. Later today an update will be sent out with the time of the hearing.

UPDATE: This is just a notification procedure tomorrow, and there will not be an in-court hearing. There will be a pre-trial February 10, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in front of Juvenile Referee Raeigen Woods. 

Sandra St. Andre - Today the wife of the former Romulus Police Chief Michael St. Andre was convicted as charged by a jury today in the police corruption case. (See chart attached.) The sentence hearing will be held on February 20, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Michael Hathaway. See page 34 of the attached Weekly Case Update for the trial dates for the other six defendants.

Detroit Firefighter Terrill Hardaway Charged with Second Degree Murder

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Detroit firefighter Terrill Ian Hardaway, 35 (DOB 6/10/77), in connection with the fatal shooting death of Tony Jackson, 41, of Detroit. On December 29, 2012, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Hardaway entered a bar located in the 19300 block of Schoolcraft in Detroit and approached Jackson, who was working there as a disc jockey. There was a verbal and physical altercation that was interrupted by security personnel. The two men were separated and taken outside. It is alleged that once outside, the defendant continued to be the aggressor, when both men pulled out handguns and fired. Jackson sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The defendant sustained a single gunshot wound to the shoulder. Hardaway was treated and released from a local hospital. More detailed facts will be revealed at the preliminary examination in the case.

Hardaway has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. He is expected to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.

William Rice and Cheryl Sanford - Former DPD homicide lieutenant and his friend charged with conducting a continuing criminal enterprise. The sentencing scheduled for tomorrow has been adjourned by the court until February 13, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Gregory Bill.

Terrill Ian Hardaway - Charged with Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. He was arraigned on the warrant this morning and received a $500,000/10% cash bond. His preliminary examination is scheduled for a February 25, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.

At 1:45 p.m. today, the Defendant is expected to have a hearing to appeal his bond that will be heard by 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles. The defendant is represented by attorney Gerald Evelyn.

This afternoon, the defendant had a hearing to appeal his bond and 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles reduced the bond to $150,000/10%.

Alphonso Jackson - Jackson killed and dismembered the body of an unidentified woman. Today he was sentenced on the following charges: Murder Second Degree - 10 to 20 years, Disinterment of a Body - 57 months to 10 years, Tampering with Evidence - 57 months to 10 years and Concealing a Death - one to five years.

Patricia Johnson and Robert Richardson and Harvey Witcher - Charged in the fatal shooting death of a four-year-old boy in Detroit. Johnson and Richardson are scheduled for a preliminary examination on January 31, 2014 before Judge Jones-Coleman. Judge Coleman-Jones schedules her preliminary examinations to begin at 11:30 a.m. The computer indicates preliminary examination for Harvey Witcher is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on February 6, 2014, also before Judge Jones-Coleman. Please be advised that tomorrow the cases may be consolidated, possibly causing an adjournment.

Robert Bashara - Grosse Pointe Park man charged in the killing of his wife Jane Bashara. His next court date is scheduled for February 18, 2014 before Judge Vonda Evans.

Patricia Johnson, Robert Richardson and Harvey Witcher - Charged in the fatal shooting death of a four-year-old boy in Detroit. Johnson, Richardson and Witcher are scheduled for a preliminary examination on February 14, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Jones-Coleman. The case was adjourned today so that Witcher could have his preliminary examination on the same day as Johnson and Richardson.
