Defendant Carlos Love Charged in Arson Fire on Rogge Street

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Carlos M. Love, 22 (DOB 2/5/93), of Detroit with an arson fire that occurred on October 4, 2013 at approximately 5:07 a.m. at a house located in the 19600 block of Rogge in Detroit. It is alleged that the defendant poured the contents of a gas can around several areas of a house on Rogge Street; he was seen by a neighbor who called the Detroit Fire and Police Departments. At 5:15 a.m., the fire department arrived and extinguished multiple fires on the exterior of the house. A determination was made that the fires were caused by an ignitable liquid distributed on multiple areas of the dwelling.

Love has been charged with Arson - Second Degree and Preparation to Burn Real Property. He is expected to be arraigned today in 36th District Court at 10:30 a.m. Please confirm the arraignment time with the court.

Love was previously charged in connection with a March 5, 2014 sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman that occurred at Jason Manor apartment building. His preliminary examination in that case is scheduled for March 18, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. A fire that occurred at Jason Manor on March 5, 2014 remains under investigation.

Detroit Man Charged in Hit and Run Car Crash

Marcus Hutson, 34, of Detroit, has been charged with two counts of Failure to Stop at an Accident Causing Death, a five year felony. It is alleged that on March 14, 2014 at 10: 20 p.m., Hutson struck and killed a 55-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman as they were walking across Meyers and West McNichols. After hitting the victims, the defendant fled the scene. The man and woman were taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. An investigation by the Detroit Police lead to the arrest of Hutson.

He was arraigned on March 17, 2014 in 36th District Court. His preliminary examination is on April 1, 2014.

Man and Son Charged in Beating Death of Man at 8 Mile Party Store

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Reginald Sturgis, 39 (DOB 5/15/74), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal beating death of Carl Alexander Bell, 45, of Detroit, that occurred at a store located in the 14600 block of West Eight Mile Road in Detroit. On March 16, 2014 at 7:20 p.m., Sturgis and his 15-year old son were shopping in the store and were standing in the checkout line when Sturgis is alleged to have gotten into an argument with Bell. The argument escalated and it is alleged Sturgis punched Bell about the face and body, assisted by his son. Bell was conveyed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from the beating he sustained.

Sturgis has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He will be arraigned tomorrow in 36th District court at 10:30 a.m.

The 15-year-old has been charged as a juvenile with Second Degree Murder. He will have his preliminary hearing on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at the Juvenile Detention Center located on St. Antoine, across from the Wayne County Jail in Detroit.

Second Avenue Fatal Beating Case - A charging decision and arraignment are expected on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the morning. A release will be sent out when the charging process has been completed.

Two Charged in Beating of Man at Second Avenue Grocery Store

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Demarco Martez Broadus, 33 (DOB 6/2/80) and Antoine Reese Thomas, 43 (DOB 4/29/70), in connection with the beating death of Frederick Joe Belk, 60, at a grocery store located in the 3400 block of Second in Detroit. All of the men resided in Detroit. On March 15, 2014 at approximately 7:35 p.m., Belk had an argument with Broadus and Thomas. The argument escalated into a physical fight and it is alleged that Broadus picked up a metal dolly and struck Belk in the head. It is alleged that Thomas hit Belk with a cane and also assaulted him with the metal dolly.

Both defendants have been charged with Open Murder which is a felony that carries a penalty up to Life in Prison without parole.

We have just been informed that Broadus was arraigned yesterday in a special arraignment. Thomas is expected to be arraigned today at 36th District Court at 10:30 a.m. Please confirm the time of the arraignment with 36th District Court.

Father Timothy Kane and Dorecca Brewer - Catholic priest and co-defendant charged in connection with a fraudulent scheme to steal money from an Archdiocese of Detroit charitable fund. Defendants waived their Preliminary Examinations today. The Arraignment on the Information is scheduled for April 3, 2014 in Wayne County Third Circuit Court.

Joseph Weekley - Officer charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Aiyana Stanley -Jones during a police raid. The pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Cynthia Hathaway.

Semeria Greene - Mother charged with the fatal stabbing death of her 8-year-old daughter. Judge Margaret Van Houten determined her to be competent today. Greene pleaded guilty today to Second Degree Murder and Child Abuse First Degree with a sentence agreement of 23 to 50 years in prison. She will be sentenced on April 7, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Third Man Charged in Fatal Beating of Man at Second Avenue Grocery Store

On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Demarco Martez Broadus, 33 (DOB 6/2/80) and Antoine Reese Thomas, 43 (DOB 4/29/70), in connection with the beating death of Frederick Joe Belk, 60 at a grocery store located in the 3400 block of Second in Detroit. Today Theodore Joel Tresvant, 38 (DOB 11/17/76), has been charged and is alleged to have participated in the fatal beating. All of the men resided in Detroit. On March 15, 2014 at approximately 7:35 p.m., Belk had an argument with Broadus and Thomas. The argument escalated into a physical fight and it is alleged that Broadus picked up a metal dolly and struck Belk in the head. It is alleged that Thomas hit Belk with a cane and also assaulted him with the metal dolly.

All three defendants have been charged with Open Murder which is a felony that carries a penalty up to Life in Prison without parole.

Tresvant will be arraigned on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the morning in 36th District Court. Broadus and Thomas were arraigned earlier this week and their preliminary examinations are scheduled for March 27, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Joseph Baltimore.
