Southfield Man Charged in Fatal OWI Car Crash

Robert Anthony Chaney, 37 (DOB: 01/04/1980), of Southfield, was video-arraigned on Saturday in a fatal car crash that killed a 20-year-old man and a 20-year-year old woman on Pickford and Whitcomb in Detroit on April 13, 2017 at 2:40 p.m.

Chaney has been charged with two counts of Operating Under the Influence Causing Death, and two counts of Operating Under the Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury.* The defendant is being treated in a local hospital. An attorney appeared for Chaney and waived his presence in 34th District Court and he received a $100,000 bond. The probable cause hearing is on April 21, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination is on April 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court.

Detroit Man Charged in Homicide of Brothers

Aubrey Jiles Stanley, Jr., 42 (DOB: 4/22/1974), has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.*

On April 9, 2017 at 7:57 p.m., in the front yard of a location in the 20000 block of Schaefer in Detroit, it is alleged that Stanley fatally shot brothers Louis T. Phillips, 28 and Alex D. Stewart, 24. All of the men are Detroit residents. The facts of the case will come out in court at the preliminary examination.

The defendant was arraigned on Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 25, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 2, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before 36th District Court Judge Lydia Nance Adams.

Former EMT Charged With Willful Neglect of Duty

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged former Detroit emergency medical technician Ann Marie Thomas, 45, in connection with failing to respond to a medical dispatch. On May 30, 2015 at 5:42 p.m., near a home in the 19900 block of Glastonbury, it is alleged that Thomas intentionally delayed her response to a dispatch of an eight-month-old infant, who was struggling to breathe. It is further alleged that Thomas stopped driving her vehicle and parked less than a mile away from the location. Another EMT unit was dispatched to the location. The child died later on the same day. On June 24, 2015, the City of Detroit discharged Thomas from her employment.

Thomas has been charged with Willful Neglect of Duty*, a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one year incarceration. She was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court. A pre-trial is scheduled for April 28, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. before 36th District Court Judge Roberta Archer. Thomas received a $25,000 personal bond.

Greektown Assault Case – WCPO has received a warrant this morning and it is currently being reviewed.

Two Men Charged in Greektown Assault

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Stanley Faulk, 23 (DOB: 07//04/1989), of Inkster, and Keith Harvey, 26 (DOB: 11/20/1990), of Detroit, in connection with the assault of Brandon Putnam, 23, of Detroit, in Greektown. On April 16, 2017 at approximately 1:00 a.m., on Monroe and St. Antoine Streets, it is alleged that a friend of Putnam’s got into a verbal argument with a group of approximately eight men. The argument became physical and another male friend of Putnam’s was assaulted by the group of men. When Putnam went to aid his friend, the group of men began to violently beat Putnam while he was on the ground. In addition to the beating, Putnam’s personal property was stolen. Putnam is currently being treated in a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the attack.

On April 17, 2017, the investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Faulk and Harvey as suspects in the beating of Putnam and taking his personal property. Faulk and Harvey are charged with Unarmed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault. It is alleged that cocaine was found on Harvey at the time of his arrest. Harvey has also been charged with Possession of Cocaine.

Both defendants are expected to be arraigned this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in 36th District Court.

Detroit Man Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Two DPD Officers

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Juwan Alexander Plummer, 19 (DOB: 06/13/1997), of Oak Park, Michigan in connection with the non-fatal shootings of two Detroit police officers. On April 16, 2017 at 11:45 p.m. the two DPD officers responded to a dispatch for a home invasion in progress at a home in the 20500 block of Lesure. They knocked on the door of Plummer’s mother’s home on the same block and, as they were walking away from the location, it is alleged that Plummer fired a weapon from inside the house striking both officers. Plummer was arrested at the scene. The two officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Plummer has been charged with two counts each of the following crimes: Intentional Discharge of a Firearm in a Building Causing Serious Injury (20 years); Intentional Discharge of a Firearm in a Building Causing Injury (15 years), Felonious Assault (Four years). He has also been charged with four counts of Felony Firearm (Two years consecutive)*.

Prosecutor Worthy said, “This case is very unfortunate and could have been much worse. We simply cannot and will not ignore the alleged actions of the defendant in this case. The victims could well have been a neighbor, or a small child. The lives of these officers, who were doing their jobs, will never be the same and we must hold people accountable for their actions."

Plummer was arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 26, 2017; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 2, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10% bond.

Third Defendant Charged in Greektown Assault

Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Eddie Curry, 23 (DOB: 01/01/1986) of Inkster, in connection with the assault of Brandon Putnam, 23, of Detroit, in Greektown. On April 16, 2017 at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Monroe and St. Antoine Streets, it is alleged that a friend of Putnam’s got into a verbal argument with a group of approximately eight men. When Putnam went to aid his friend, the group of men began to violently beat Putnam while he was on the ground. In addition to the beating, Putnam’s personal property was stolen. It is alleged that Curry participated in the beating and theft of Putnam. Putnam is currently being treated in a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the attack.

On April 19, 2017, Defendant Curry was arrested and taken to the Detroit Detention Center. He is charged with; Unarmed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and Felonious Assault. Curry was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 27, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 3, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. Defendant Curry also received a $5 million cash/surety bond.

Detroit Man Charged in B and E of Detroit Water and Sewage Service Station

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ernest Lee Jones, Jr., 25 (DOB:4/8/1992), of Detroit, in connection with a breaking and entering of a Detroit Water and Sewage Service Station located in the 13300 block of East McNichols. On April 15, 2017 at 4:00 a.m., and in the early morning hours on April 19, 2017, it is alleged that Jones used a crowbar and sledge hammers to get inside the building where he broke into the cash registers and stole cash, coins and checks. Jones was arrested in April 19, 2017 at 2:05 a.m. when the police responded to a call of a B and E in progress.

Jones has been charged with Safe Breaking, Breaking and Entering A Building, Possession of Burglar’s Tools, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property. Jones was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn M. White. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 28, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $15,000/10% bond.
