Detroit Double Homicide on McKinney Street - WCPO has just received the warrant request for this case and it is currently being reviewed. WCPO continues to review the warrant request for this case. There will not be a charging decision or an arraignment today.

Detroit Man Charged in McKinney Street Double Homicide

Robert Bryant Watts, 36 (DOB:1/24/1981), has been charged in connection with the homicide of his wife Theresa Janay Watts, 36, and her friend Tarance Daivon Smith,35, all are Detroit residents. On December 31, 2017 at approximately 5:00 p.m. it is alleged that the defendant went over to Mrs. Watt's home located in the 9200 block of McKinney and demanded to see his three children. When Mrs. Watts remained near the door and refused the demand, it is alleged that the defendant pulled out a handgun and shot Mrs. Watts while her children were present. After the shooting he made the children go into a bathroom. Once they were inside, it is alleged that the defendant shot Mr. Smith while he was seated at the kitchen table. After the shooting the children left the home and were later found at the home of a relative.

On January 1, 2017 at the Detroit Police Department were called to the home on McKinney and discovered the lifeless bodies of Mrs. Watts and Mr. Smith. Investigation by DPD led to the arrest of Defendant Watts on January 2, 2018.

Watts has been charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder and two counts of Felony Firearm. Watts was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for January 12, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for January 19, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.

Two Men Charged in Harper Woods Home Invasion and Dog Shooting

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Jason Gadie, 42 (DOB: 07/04/1975), of Warren, and Timothy Wade Horton, 48 (DOB: 04/06/1969), of Detroit, in connection with a home invasion during which it is alleged they non-fatally shot a dog.

On January 2, 2018, at 7:55 p.m., it is alleged that Gadie and Horton forced entry into a home in the 19700 block of Country Club Drive in Harper Woods. The 26-year-old male home owner and a 25-year-old St. Clair Shores man were inside the house when it is alleged that they were confronted at gunpoint by Gadie. It is further alleged that Horton came into the house and was standing next to Gadie when Gadie pointed a gun at the 26-year-old home owner, demanding that he tell him where marijuana was located in the house. When the home owner's dog heard the commotion, it jumped on Gadie and Horton, and Gadie shot the dog. The home owner was able to escape from the house. The defendants are alleged to have forced the 25-year-old man to lead them to money and a garbage bag of marijuana in the basement. After they had the items, the defendants entered a vehicle and left the location. Investigation by the Harper Woods police led to the arrest of Gadie and Horton on the same day. The dog survived the shooting.

Gadie and Horton were arraigned in 32A District Court in Harper Woods today. The probable cause conference for both defendants is scheduled for January 17, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. before 32-A District Court Judge Daniel Palmer. Sumpter Township Infant Fatality - Aspects of the case are currently under investigation. There is no further information that will be released at this time.
