Man Charged in Jefferson Avenue Hit and Run Car Crash Injuring Nine-Year-Old Boy

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Mohammad Kamruzzaman, 40, (DOB: 6/15/75), of Hamtramck, in connection with a non-fatal car crash that injured a boy as he walked across the street. On January 28, 2016 at approximately 7:30 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant was driving a cab at Jefferson and Alter and, as the light was turning green, turned into a designated bike lane and hit a nine-year-old boy. After striking the child, he fled from the scene. The child sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification of the defendant who has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident. The defendant was arraigned today in 36th District Court before Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 2, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 9, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Langston. The defendant received a $20,000.00 personal bond.

Hightower Charged in Amber Alert Homicides

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Marcus Tyrone Hightower, 34, (DOB: 08/25/1982) of Detroit, in the deaths of Heidi Walker, 39, and four-year-old Savannah Walker, both of Detroit. Hightower has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder, and one count of the following charges: Felony Murder, Child Abuse First Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment and Third Degree Arson.

Initially, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office was informed yesterday afternoon that the arraignment would not take place until today. Although the cut off time for arraignments was over, sometime late in the afternoon the defendant had a video arraignment before Magistrate Millicent Sherman and was remanded to jail. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The probable cause conference has been scheduled for March 2, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination has been scheduled for March 9, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.

Southfield Artist Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Today Prosecutor Worthy has charged artist Marcus Oman Glenn, 48, of Southfield with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Death. On February 4, 2016 at 11:17 p.m. it is alleged that Glenn had been drinking when he was driving his wife and Hatta Olivia Funches, 44, when he crashed into a guardrail at West Jefferson and Griswold in Detroit. Ms. Funches was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Glenn was arraigned at 10:30 this morning before Magistrate Bari Blake-Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 3, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 10, 2016 at 9:00 am - both hearings are before Judge Langston. The defendant received a $75,000/10% bond.

Daraian Winfield, 18, aka Darian Winfield, 19, of Detroit  - Winfield was arraigned at 10:30 this morning, also before Magistrate Blake-Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 3, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 10, 2016 at 1:30p.m. Both hearing are before Judge Nance-Adams. The defendant was remanded to jail.

On January 7, 2016 between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant broke into a house in the 5500 block of Radnor and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old woman and physically assaulted her. The young woman later died from injuries she sustained during the attack.

Winfield has been charged with First Degree Murder, Home Invasion First Degree, and Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree. He has been previously charged with Home Invasion with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct in Detroit and Assault with Intent to Murder in Grosse Pointe.
