Former Dearborn City Clerk Charged with Embezzlement, Larceny and Misconduct in Office

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged former Dearborn City Clerk Kathleen D. Buda, 64 (DOB: 5/18/51) in connection with embezzling money, larceny, and committing misconduct during the course of her employment. From November 12, 2015 through December 12, 2015 it is alleged that Ms. Buda appropriated cash from an office cash box on multiple occasions. The specific facts and evidence will be introduced in court at the preliminary examination.

Ms. Buda has been charged with one count of Embezzlement by a Public Official, three counts of Larceny in a Building, and three counts of Misconduct in Office.* The defendant was arraigned this afternoon. Her probable cause conference is scheduled for March 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Mark W. Somers in 19th District Court. She received a $50,000 personal bond and must surrender her passport. No exam date has been set at this time.

*The charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Westland Double Homicide Case - WCPO has received a warrant request for two suspects in connection with the Westland double homicide that occurred in Westland on February 6, 2017. The warrant request is currently being reviewed and an arraignment is not expected today.

Three Charged in Westland Double Homicide

Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dominik Lou Charleston, 19 (DOB: 2/28/97) of Taylor, Kobi Austin Taylor, 19 (DOB: 11/16/97) homeless, and Amber Marie Tackett, 17 (DOB: 8/21/99), of Taylor, have been charged in connection with the homicides of Howard Wick and Jordan Baker in Westland. On February 6, 2017 at 2:28 p.m., the victims’ bodies were found by the Westland Police near Treadwell and Norene Streets in Westland. Both defendants died from gunshot wounds.

Defendant Dominik Charleston is charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder. Defendants Charleston, Taylor and Tackett are each charged with two counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Armed Robbery and two counts of Felony Firearm.* The defendants were arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon. For all three defendants, the probable cause conference is scheduled for February 16, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Mark McConnell; the preliminary examination is scheduled for February 23, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Sandra Cicirelli in 18th District Court.

Grosse Pointe Woods Woman Charged in Fatal Crash Involving FedEx Truck Wayne County

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Myah Marea Batts, 26, (DOB: 07/20/1990) of Grosse Pointe Woods, in connection with the February 7, 2017 fatal car accident that occurred in Newport Street and Chandler Park Drive in Detroit.

It is alleged on February 7, 2017 at approximately 2:27 p.m., the defendant was driving her vehicle on Newport Street at a high rate of speed. It is further alleged that she disregarded a stop sign at Chandler Park Drive and struck FedEx truck driver Rodrick Motley, 48. The collision forced the FedEx vehicle on to a grassy median and victim to be ejected from the vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the car crash.

Batts has been charged with Murder - Second Degree, OWI Causing Death, DWLS Causing Death, and Reckless Driving Causing Death.* The defendant is expected to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 in 36th District Court.

Bernard Young Appeal - There is a pre-trial on April 28, 2017 at 9;00 a.m. and the trial is scheduled for June 5, 2017 both at 9:00 a.m. Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said, “The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will not dismiss the case. We plan to go forward with an appeal. Yesterday we objected to Judge Lillard entering a bond order releasing Mr. Young from the Michigan Department of Corrections on a $5,000 personal bond. We requested that Mr. Young be transported from MDOC and released to the Wayne County Sheriff's Department until he could be fitted for the GPS tether. Unfortunately this request was denied.”

Tremaine Neverson (Trey Songz) - Defendant charged in connection with the December 28, 2017 assault on a DPD officer in Joe Louis Arena. The preliminary examination is scheduled for Friday, February 10 at 9:00 a.m. before 36th District Court before Judge Lydia Nance -Adams. Pursuant to Rule 6.006 Video and Audio Proceedings, the defendant will be present by video. He is expected to waive his preliminary examination tomorrow in court.

The defendant received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
