Detroit Man Charged In Knife Attack and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Darian Winfield, 19, of Detroit, in connection with a sexual assault of a Detroit woman. On December 30, 2015, it is alleged that Winfield broke into a house in the 5800 block of Radnor and stabbed a 39-year-old Detroit woman in the chest with a knife, with the intent of sexually assaulting her. The defendant fled from the house on foot. The woman called for help and was conveyed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Winfield has been charged with Home Invasion First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct. He is expected to be arraigned in 34th District Court after 11:00 a.m. this morning.

Updated Information on Darian Winfield

On Sunday, January 10, 2015, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Darian Winfield, 19, of Detroit, in connection with a sexual assault of a Detroit woman. On December 30, 2015, it is alleged that Winfield broke into a house in the 5800 block of Radnor and stabbed a 39-year-old Detroit woman with a knife in the chest with the intent of sexually assaulting her. The defendant fled from the house on foot. The woman called for help and was conveyed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Winfield was been charged with Home Invasion First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct. Winfield was arraigned on Sunday and his next date in court for the probable cause conference is on January 19, 2016, and the preliminary examination is on January 26, 2016, both before Judge Ronald Giles at 8:30 a.m.

Winfield is a person of interest in connection with a 17-year-old victim who died today from injuries sustained during an assault that occurred on January 7, 2016 in Detroit. A warrant request has not been presented for the homicide case today.

Today a warrant request was presented for Winfield in connection with the December 15, 2016 non-fatal knife attack of a woman that occurred in Grosse Pointe Park. The warrant has been presented on this case, but charges are not expected this week. The defendant remains in jail on a one million dollar cash bond.

Due to a scheduling conflict of the prosecutor the sentence hearing has been moved from January 25, 2016 until March 2, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Christopher Dingell.

Darian Winfield Charged in Grosse Pointe Park Attack

Today Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Darian Winfield*, 18 (DOB 1/28/97), of Detroit, in connection with a non-fatal assault of a 48-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman. On December 13, 2015 at 12:05 a.m. in the 1400 block of Cadieux in Grosse Pointe Park, it is alleged that -more- 3 Winfield approached the woman as she was walking, spoke to her briefly, and attacked her with a sharp object on her face, neck, and upper chest area. After the attack, the defendant fled the scene. The woman called 911, and police and emergency medical personnel took her to a local hospital where she received treatment for her wounds and was later released.

Winfield was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and was arraigned today in Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court. His probable cause conference is on January 27, 2016 and his preliminary examination is on is on February 3, 2016.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The successful prosecution of the alleged actions of this defendant will bring closure to several crimes in Wayne County."

Winfield is currently held in the Wayne County Jail on a one million dollar bond for the following charges: Home Invasion First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct in connection with a December 30, 2015 attack on a Detroit woman.

Winfield is a person of interest in connection with a 17-year-old victim who died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from injuries sustained during an assault that occurred on January 7, 2016 in Detroit. The Detroit Police Department continues to investigate the case.

*Note: Detroit Police Reports for the December 30, 2015, Home Invasion and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct listed Winfield's age as 19.

Charles Cox, 35 (DOB: 6/10/80), of Inkster - Defendant charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, Carjacking, Armed Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felony Firearm in connection with the December 24, 2015, homicide of musician Anthony L. Tolson that occurred in the 14990 block of Gratiot in Detroit. He was arraigned today and was remanded to jail. His probable cause hearing is on January 22, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and his preliminary examination is on January 28, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. before 36th District Court Judge Shannon Holmes.

Currently, the Detroit Police are looking for suspect Darnell Gene-Arthur Young, 18, of Inkster in connection with this case. He is described as a black male, 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing 145 pounds. Police say Young should be considered armed and dangerous. Virgil Smith - Michigan State Senator charged in non-fatal shooting incident involving his ex-wife on Wexford Street in Detroit. Today Judge Larry Talon re-scheduled the pre-conference for February 5, 2016. Judge Talon indicated that would be the cut-off date for the prosecution to determine if they would to make a plea offer in the case. It is the protocol of the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office not to comment on plea negotiations. The jury trial in the matter is scheduled for March 7, 2016.
