Candice Diaz - Sumpter Township Defendant charged with Co-Defendant Brad Fields in connection with the death of four-year-old Gabrielle Barrett. The Competency Hearing for Diaz will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in 34th District Court.

Raymond Durham - Defendant charged in the fatal shooting of Wayne State Police Sgt. Collin Rose and the non-fatal shootings of DPD Officers Kisselburg and Atkinson. Today the competency review date for Durham's two cases changed from Wednesday, August 8, 2018 to Friday, August 3, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in before Judge Kenneth King.

Detroit Gas Thieves Charged

On July 11, 2018 Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Damon Blocker, 29 (DOB: 05/19/1989), and Reginald Hollien, 34 (DOB: 08/07/83, both of Detroit, in connection with stealing gas from a Detroit gas station. On June 23, 2018 at approximately 12:50 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m., it is alleged that the defendants stole approximately 600 gallons of gasoline from a pump at a Marathon station located in the 17800 block of Seven Mile Road. While still at the gas station, the defendants sold and accepted cash for the gas. Once this was discovered, the attendants at the station attempted to disable the pump by computer. The attempt was unsuccessful and eventually the attendants had to activate an emergency shut off, disabling all of the pumps at the station. The defendants left the station and the police were called. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department resulted in the arrest of the defendants on July 9, 2018.

Defendants Blocker and Hollien are charged with: Use of a Computer to Commit a Crime; Organized Retail Crime; and Larceny $1000-$20,000*.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The alleged actions of these defendants show a critical need for the protection of businesses in Wayne County. We must ensure that businesses in this County are fully supported and protected."

Both defendants were arraigned late in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Blocker received a $75,000/10% bond and Hollien received a $50,000/ 10% bond. The preliminary examination has been adjourned until Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 9:00 in 36th District Court.

Two Detroit Men Charged in Eastside Park Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Terrell Demarco Reese, 22 (DOB: 06/15/1996) and Terrell Kenneth Green, 21 (DOB: 06/09/1997), both of Detroit in connection with the fatal shooting of Armani Keith Vanburen, 19, of Detroit.

On July 14, 2018, at approximately 8:17 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to Josefiak Playlot, located at Greiner Street and Fairport Street in Detroit, in response to call a regarding a body in the park. Upon arrival, the officers observed EMTs at the location, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene. It is alleged that the defendants fatally shot the victim shot multiple times. Investigation by Detroit police officers led to the arrest of the defendants.

Reese and Green have been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Firearm*. They are expected to be arraigned on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in 36 District.

Raymond Durham - Case number 17-705518 -01 - Durham was charged in connection with the March 15, 2017 non-fatal shootings of two Detroit police officers on Ash Street near Tillman in Detroit. Today Judge Kenneth King ruled that the defendant has failed to attain competence to stand trial within the 15-month time limit established by law. He found that although the defendant is not competent to stand trial, it is likely that he could become competent if provided a course of treatment, and ordered Durham to undergo treatment. The defendant's criminal case has been dismissed. WCPO will petition the probate court to have Durham committed to a secure facility for treatment. When the defendant is competent the court can be petitioned to file charges again. See attached order.

On homicide case number 17-71557-01, for Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose, Durham will continue to receive in patient treatment and be assessed in the Forensic Center. The next court review date is November 3, 2018 before Judge King.

Detroit Man Charged in Assault of Reporters and Police Officer

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Edmund Gilliam, 60 (DOB: 1/7/18), of Detroit in connection with threatening two reporters and damaging their work vehicles, as well as assaulting a Detroit police officer.

On August 2, 2018, at 6:15, it is alleged that Gilliam used a metal pole threatening a woman reporter and a cameraman from WXYZ and striking their news van causing damage. He is also alleged to have threatened a male reporter from WWJ with a metal pole and striking the WWJ news truck and causing damage. The defendant left the scene, but the police observed him at a location in the 3300 block of Tyler. When the defendant was commanded to stop by the police he fled on foot. When a police officer attempted to arrest Gilliam, it is alleged that he grabbed a piece of concrete and threw it striking the officer in the knee. Another officer tased Gilliam and he was placed under arrest.

Gilliam has been charged with three counts of Felonious Assault, one count of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and four counts of Malicious Destruction of Property $200-$1000.* He is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court at 2:30 p.m.

Detroit Woman Charged in East Jefferson Avenue Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lisa Haskins-Baggs, 53, (DOB: 04/29/1965), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Eunice Person, 77, also of Detroit.

On August 2, 2018 at approximately 8:05 p.m., Detroit police were dispatched to East Jefferson and Conner regarding a two motor vehicle crash. It is alleged that while traveling eastbound on Jefferson, the defendant veered into the westbound lanes and struck the victim's vehicle. Medics arrived at the scene and transported both the victim and the defendant to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Ms. Person was pronounced dead at the hospital. The defendant was placed into custody while in the hospital.

Haskins-Baggs has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Operating a Vehicle While License Suspended, Revoked or Denied, Causing Death*.

Haskins-Baggs is expected to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon in 36th District Court.
