Mark Lin Bessner - MSP Trooper charged in connection with the August 26, 2017 fatal ATV crash that killed 15-year-old Damon Grimes on Rossini Street in Detroit. On October 31, 2018, the first trial was declared a mistrial due to a hung jury. On April 17, 2019, in the second trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the charge of Involuntary Manslaughter. Today defendant received 5 to 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, and $8000 in restitution was ordered by Judge Margaret Van Houten.

Seventeen-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Micaiah Carlin Minor, 17 (DOB: 10/30/2001) of Canton, Michigan in connection with a fatal car crash that killed John Robert McElreath, 64, of Van Buren Township, Michigan, that occurred in Van Buren Township. The city of residence for the defendant and the victim were not contained on official paperwork.

On May 7, 2019 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Van Buren Township Public Safety officers were dispatched to the area of Belleville Road and Ecorse Road in response to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim in his vehicle, which had sustained significant damage, and had come to rest in an open grass field. EMS responded to the crash site and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. Defendant Minor was found in a damaged vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that Minor, an unlicensed driver, was driving southbound on Belleville Road at a high rate of speed, when he disregarded a red light crossed over the double yellow line and into northbound traffic, striking the victim in his car.

Minor has been charged with Murder - Second Degree.* He was arraigned on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in 34th District Court. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 29, 2019 in 34th District Court. The defendant received a $50,000/10% bond, with a tether. Farmington Man Charged in Greektown Shooting

Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Delano R. Ward, 26 (DOB: 04/14/1993), of Farmington, in connection with a shooting that injured three males ages 23, 24 and 32 in Greektown. On May 5, 2019, at approximately 11:55 p.m. in front of a store located on Monroe Street near Beaubien, it is alleged that Ward pulled a handgun out of his pocket, shot, and wounded three men. After the shooting, Ward fled from the scene on foot. The three men received medical treatment for their injuries at local hospitals.

Ward was taken into custody by the police on May 8, 2019. He has been charged with three counts each of the following crimes: Assault with Intent to Murder; Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm; Carrying a Concealed Weapon; and Felony Firearm.*

Ward was arraigned out-county on May 11, 2019 before Magistrate Linda Mack in 34th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 22, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 29, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.

Detroit Duo Charged in Carjacking and Armed Robbery Spree

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Maruis Edward Robinson 31, (DOB: 07/01/1987) and Kevin Terrell Edwards, 28 (DOB: 03/21/1991), both of Detroit, in connection with a string of carjackings and armed robberies that occurred between May 9, 2019 and May 13, 2019 in Detroit.

On May 9, 2019 at approximately 12:45 p.m., a car was stolen from the front of a home located in the 8800 block of Stahelin in Detroit. On May 13, 2019 at approximately 8:40 a.m., in the area of Rutland Street near Plymouth Road, it is alleged that the defendants attempted to carjack and rob an adult male at gunpoint. The male victim fled the scene on foot without surrendering his car keys. Later that morning, at approximately 9:37 a.m., it is alleged that the defendants approached a woman in the parking lot of 9600 Wyoming Avenue, produced a weapon and robbed her of her personal belongings and drove off in her vehicle.

At approximately 9:43 the same morning, it is alleged the defendants approached a woman sitting in her vehicle in the 10100 block of West Chicago, produced a weapon and robbed her of her personal belongings and vehicle, as well. At 10:04 a.m. on the same morning, it is alleged the defendants approached a male victim as he was getting in his car in the area of Joy Road and Greenfield, produced a weapon and stole his belongings and vehicle. Investigation by Detroit police officers led to the apprehension of the defendants.

The defendants have each been charged with Carjacking, three counts of Armed Robbery, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property over $20,000; Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - $1,000 - $20,000, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and eight counts of Felony Firearm.*

Robinson and Edwards were arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for May 28, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for June 4, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones in 36th District Court. Both defendants received a $300,000 cash/surety bond. Please request a photograph of the defendants from the Detroit Police Department.

Highland Park Man Charged in Seven Mile/Coyle Street Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Allivas Dondi Kyles, 32 (DOB: 01/05/1987), of Highland Park, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Sherman Wright, 61 and Eugenia Frison, age 52, both of Detroit.On May 14, 2019 at approximately 5:46 p.m., Detroit police officers in a marked scout car were on West Seven Mile Road when they were flagged down by several people about a car crash at West Seven Mile Road and Coyle. The officers drove to the scene and observed two crashed vehicles. The victims, Sherman Wright and Eugenia Frison, were found to be unresponsive at the scene of the crash. Medics transported them to a local hospital where they were both pronounced deceased. The driver of the second car fled the scene on foot. Investigation by the Detroit police officers led to the arrest of Defendant Kyles.

It is alleged that the defendant drove his vehicle eastbound on West Seven Mile Road at a high rate of speed, disregarded the red traffic signal at Coyle, and struck the victims' vehicle, killing them both.

Kyles has been charged with two counts of Second Degree Murder, two counts of Operating While License Suspended/Revoked/Denied Causing Death, and two counts of Failure to Stop at an Accident When At Fault Resulting in Death.*

Kyles was arraigned late yesterday afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 29, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 5, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lynise Bryant in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.
