Detroit Man Charged with Fleeing Police on I-75

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Derronn Deshawn Sherard, 24 (DOB: 09/05/95), of Detroit in connection with fleeing from Detroit police. On September 8, 2017 after 12:00 p.m. on I-75 it is alleged that Sherard refused to stop his car when ordered by Detroit police officers riding in a fully marked police cruiser. It is further alleged that the defendant abandoned his car and fled on foot across several lanes of traffic on I-75. He has been charged with Fleeing and Eluding the Police Third Degree, Resisting and Obstructing the Police, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Marijuana.

Sherard was arraigned today in 36th District Court and received a $75,000 cash/surety bond. His preliminary examination is on September 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for September 25, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King.

Westland Man Charged in Murder of Roommate

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jovica Nikoloski, 22, (DOB: 06/09/95) in connection with the murder of his roommate Spase Grazhdani, 25, both of Westland. On September 9, 2017 at 5:00 a.m. at their apartment in the 6500 block of Yale in Westland it is alleged that Nikoloski attacked the victim stabbing him multiple times. Police and medics were called to the apartment and Nikoloski was placed under arrest. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The defendant has been charged with First Degree Murder. Today he was arraigned on and remanded to jail in 18th District Court in Westland. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 21, 2017 and his preliminary examination is on September 28, 2017 before Judge Sandra Cicirelli in 18th District Court in Westland.

Virgil Smith - On September 11, 2017 at 4:31 p.m. WCPO was notified that the Michigan Supreme Court denied the WCPO Motion for Immediate Consideration. MSC also ordered supplemental briefs to be filed within 42 days and oral argument on the application for leave to appeal. Maria Miller said: "The schedule for supplemental briefs and oral argument effectively means that nothing will happen in the case before the November election." See MSC Smith Order attached.

Detroit Man Charged in Escape from DPD Custody

On September 5, 2017, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Artese Deshaun Davis, 23, (DOB: 04/12/1994), of Detroit, with Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, Escape from Lawful Custody, and Larceny (Stealing Police Handcuffs)*.

On September 2, 2017 at 11:26 p.m., it is alleged that Davis was observed by Detroit Police officers in his car driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Vaughn and Joy Road. The police stopped and handcuffed Davis and, while they were attempting to place him in the police car, it is alleged that he escaped on foot. On September 3, 2017, an investigation by DPD led to the arrest of the defendant in the 2500 block of Kendal in Detroit.

Davis was arraigned in 36th District Court and received a $30,000/10% bond. His probable cause hearing was scheduled for September 12, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. before 36th District Court Judge Dana Hathaway. At the probable cause conference, the defendant pled guilty to Attempted Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer and Escape from Lawful Custody. The Larceny count was dismissed. The plea was accepted and the case was bound over to Third Circuit Court for sentencing on September 26, 2017 before Third Circuit Court Judge Dana Hathaway.

* The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

DeMarco Harris - Adult designated juvenile convicted in 2010 of Felony Murder, Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery Armed, and Felony Firearm in the 2009 homicide of 24-year-old Trisha Babcock, of Davison, Michigan. On Friday, September 15, 2017 Harris, who is now 21-years-old, will have his final review hearing before Judge Virgil C. Smith in the Lincoln Hall of Justice at 9:00 a.m. At the final hearing, the court determines if the best interests of justice are served by imposing any other sentence provided by law for an adult offender.
