Two Medics Assaulted by Detroit Man
While Rendering Aid to Him

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Andre Maxwell, 22 (DOB: 04/18/1996), of Detroit, in connection with assaults on two first responding EMTs and the unlawful driving away of their EMS truck.

On April 7, 2019 at approximately 10:55 p.m., EMS medics responded to a dispatch in the 19100 block of Prevost in Detroit. Upon arrival, the medics rendered aid to Maxwell. During transport to a local hospital for medical treatment, the defendant became agitated. It is alleged that Maxwell attempted to assault the EMT traveling in the rear of the truck and the driver pulled over to assist his partner. Maxwell then is alleged to have physically assaulted both EMTs while still in the rear of the truck. When the EMTs exited the truck, the defendant walked around to the driver's side of the truck, got in and drove away. Detroit police officers located the truck, responded to the scene and Maxwell was placed under arrest.

Maxwell has been charged with Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property Over $20,000 (10 Year Felony), Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile (Five Year Felony) and two counts of Resisting and Obstructing with Injury (Four Year Felonies).* He was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Ronald Giles. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10% bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
