Two Detroit Men Charged in Fatal Shooting of Teen

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jeremy Lamar Cooley, 31, (DOB: 12/27/1986) and Deangelo Sanchez Alexander, 18, (DOB: 12/27/1999), both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of a16-year-old Detroit male, and the non-fatal shooting of a15-year-old Detroit male.

On August 24, 2018 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 20600 block of West Seven Mile Road near Pierson Street in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 16-year-old victim who sustained a gunshot wound and the 15-year-old victim who sustained a wound to the arm. Medics at the scene transported both teens to a local hospital for treatment and where the 16-year-old was pronounced dead. Investigation by the Detroit police led to the arrests of the defendants.

It is alleged that Defendant Cooley drove the vehicle while Defendant Alexander discharged a weapon at the teens while they were changing a flat tire on their vehicle.

Both defendants have been charged with Murder - First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder, and Felony Firearm*. They were arraigned today by 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for September 13, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for September 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. Both defendants were remanded to jail.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
