Teen Charged as Adult in Fatal Shooting
at HYPE Athletic Center

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Antoine Perry, 16 (DOB: 05/06/2002), of the City of Wayne, as an adult, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Ypsilanti man.

On November 26, 2018 at approximately 5:20 p.m., City of Wayne police officers were dispatched to the HYPE Athletic Center in the 6300 block of Howe Road in Wayne, MI. Upon arrival, the officers found an adult male victim in the lobby of the building, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

On November 26, 2018, it is alleged that Perry contacted the victim to purchase marijuana. When the victim began to drive away, Perry attempted take the marijuana without paying for it. It is further alleged that the defendant fired a weapon at the victim, striking him multiple times. The victim made his way into the lobby of the athletic center prior to his transfer to the hospital. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented on the record at the Preliminary Examination.

The defendant has been charged with one count of Felony Murder, one count of Armed Robbery and two counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned and remanded to jail today. The Probable Cause Conference will be held on December 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination will be held on December 28, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in 29th District Court in Wayne.
