Detroit Man Charged in Carlisle Street Fatal Beating

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Andre Lamont Cockerham, Jr., 24, (DOB: 05/30/1995), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal beating of Andre Buford, Sr., 44, also of Detroit.

On November 3, 2018, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the 16900 block of Carlisle Street. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim's lifeless body inside the residence. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

It is alleged that the defendant fatally beat the victim and robbed him. Investigation by the Detroit police led to the arrest of the defendant. Further facts and evidence will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.

Cockerham has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery and Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile.* He was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 3, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 10, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both Hearings are before Judge Lynise Bryant.
