Charges to be Amended at Probable Cause Conference in
Fatal Shooting of Officer Doss

Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Decharlos O. Brooks, 43 (DOB: 08/07/1974), of Detroit, in connection with the shooting of DPD Officer Glenn Doss. On January 24, 2018 at approximately 10:09 p.m., DPD officers were dispatched to a house in the 5500 block of McDougall, responding to shots fired. It is alleged that Brooks shot Officer Doss in the head. Officer Doss was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It is further alleged tha,t after shooting the officer, Brooks stood pointing his handgun at other officers at the scene. Shortly thereafter, Brooks barricaded himself inside his house until the DPD Special Response Team was able to place him under arrest.

On January 27, 2018, Brooks was arraigned and remanded to jail on: eight counts of Assault with Intent to Murder; seven counts of Resisting and Obstructing; one count of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon and 18 counts of Felony Firearm*.

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, Officer Doss expired from his wound. Today, the Wayne County will amend the charges to First Degree Murder, Murder of a Peace Officer and Resisting/Obstructing Causing Death*. Brooks will be arraigned at the Probable Cause Conference on February 6, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. in 36 District Court in Detroit.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The hearts of the men and women of the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office are heavy today, but our resolve is strong to bring the defendant to justice. Brooks is now facing murder charges for his alleged actions. The death of Officer Doss illustrates once again the extreme danger involved for police officers in domestic violence cases. We must protect our officers, and pay very serious attention to domestic violence issues."

*The charges are allegations unless of until the defendant is convicted.
