Flat Rock Man Charged in Double Murder Case

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Thomas Edward Lane, Jr., 57, (DOB: 09/18/1960), in connection with the homicides of Mark Allan Harris 56, and his wife Catherine Anne Markowski, all of Flat Rock, Michigan. Defendant Lane had been living in the home of his sister, Ms. Markowski, and his brother-in-law, Mr. Harris, for several months prior to their deaths.

On March 31, 2018 at 1:20 p.m., Flat Rock police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 24800 block of Chinook Court. Upon entry, the police observed the lifeless bodies of Mr. Harris and Ms. Markowski inside the home and pronounced them dead at the scene. It is alleged that Defendant Lane fatally shot both victims and fled the scene in their car. At 5:35 p.m. on the same day, the police observed the defendant driving the victims' car on Benson Street in Trenton. Michigan State Police placed him under arrest and confiscated a handgun from the car. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Defendant Lane is charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Second Degree, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.*Lane was arraigned today before 33rd District Court Judge Jennifer Hesson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 17, 2018. Both hearings are before 33rd District Court Judge Hesson. The defendant was remanded to jail.
