Couple Charged in Carjacking of 88-Year-Old Livonia Woman

Jason Malinas, 38 (DOB: 12/10/1979), of Sterling Heights, and Jessica St. Clair, 41 (DOB: 08/09/1977), of Wayne, have been charged by Prosecutor Kym Worthy in connection with the carjacking of an 88-year-old Livonia woman. On September 18, 2018 at 3:57 p.m., the victim parked her car at a Walmart Store located in the 29500 block of Plymouth Road in Livonia. As she was walking to get a shopping cart, it is alleged that Malinas pulled the victim's purse strap, causing her to fall to the pavement. It is further alleged that Malinas took the victim's purse and keys and drove away in the victim's car. St. Clair was in the passenger seat of the victim's car. Civilian witnesses at the scene observed the incident and gave information to Livonia police officers. Investigation by the police led to the arrest of the defendants at approximately 11:00 p.m. on the same day.

The defendants have been charged with Carjacking, Unarmed Robbery, and five counts of Stealing a Financial Transaction Device.* Both defendants were arraigned this afternoon in 16th District Court in Livonia. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 27, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Kathleen McCann in 16th District Court. No Preliminary Examination has been scheduled at this time. Both defendants received a $2 Million cash/surety bond.
