Wayne, MI Man Charged in Inkster Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cleve Allen Ransaw 26, (DOB: 05/12/1993) of Wayne, Michigan in connection with the fatal shooting of Joseph Kenneth Benson, 26, of Inkster. Ransaw and Benson were acquaintances.

On September 13, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Inkster police were dispatched to the area of Western Street near Oakwood regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim, who sustained apparent multiple gunshot wounds. The victim's remains were transported from the scene. Investigation by Inkster police led to the arrest of the defendant.

It is alleged that an argument between Ransaw and Benson escalated and Ransaw discharged a weapon, striking the victim several times. It is further alleged that Ransaw took cash from the victim.

Ransaw has been charged with Murder - First Degree, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Felonious Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and four counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned on Friday, September 20, 2019 in 22nd District Court in Inkster. The Probable Cause Conference has been scheduled for September 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Sabrina Johnson in 22nd District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
