Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Justin Joseph Pruneau, 33 (DOB: 12/04/1983), in connection with the death of Robert Carson Cook, 59. Both of the men were River Rouge residents and were acquainted with one another. On July 21, 2017 at approximately 8:05 p.m., it is alleged that Pruneau rode a bicycle with a rifle concealed in a garbage bag to Cook's home located in the 40th block of Oak Street in River Rouge. Once inside the home, it is further alleged that Pruneau discharged the weapon, wounding Cook in the abdomen. Shortly after the shooting, Cook was transported by medics to a local hospital where he expired from the wound. Pruneau fled from the home on his bicycle and was arrested by River Rouge police officers later on the same day.
Pruneau has been charged with Open Murder and Felony Firearm*. He was arraigned this afternoon in 25th District Court. Pruneau has been remanded to jail and his probable cause conference will be on August 1, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before 25th District Court Judge Gregory Clifton. No preliminary examination date has been given at this time.
