Rockwood

Rockwood is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,289 at the 2010 census. The city has a total area of 2.65 square miles, of which 2.52 square miles is land and 0.13 square miles is water. The Detroit River Light Station, one of the U.S. Coast Guard Lighthouses and Light Stations on the Great Lakes, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Rockwood is served by the Gibraltar School District.

History & Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,289 people, 1,295 households, and 900 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,305.2 inhabitants per square mile. There were 1,387 housing units at an average density of 550.4 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 94.6% White, 1.7% African American, 0.9% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
