Cara Clemente (Dist. 4)

Representing: Ecorse, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, River Rouge & Detroit (part).

Cara A. Clemente joined the Wayne County Commission on Jan. 1, 2023 in her first term as a county commissioner. She is representing the communities of Ecorse, Detroit (part), Lincoln Park, Melvindale and River Rouge. She is chair of the Committee on Government Operations and serves as a member of the committees on Public Safety, Judiciary & Homeland Security, Economic Development, Seniors & Veterans Affairs, and Ways & Means.A lifelong resident of Downriver, Clemente graduated from Oscar A. Carlson High School in Gibraltar. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in education with a specialized focus in reading from Eastern Michigan University. She has two decades of experience in education and academic development.

In 2016, she was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives serving the cities of Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Riverview and Wyandotte. She served six years in the legislature. During her time, she was Democratic Vice Chair of the Financial Services Committee and she was a key member in the Health Policy Committee and Transportation Committee. She also co-chaired the House Community Service Committee. In this role, she organized service for the Democratic Caucus to serve all over the state at local food banks and environmental water clean-ups.

Motivated to see her communities thrive, she has planned and participated in community service projects bringing food, water, and summer gardening supplies to those in need. Clemente is committed to help any way that she can. She works with partner groups like Gleaners Food Bank of Detroit, Senior Alliance Meals on Wheels and holiday meals and the Downriver chapter of Families Against Narcotics.

To those she has worked with and for, Clemente has always been a champion of health rights and a fierce fighter for improved education. She recognizes the importance of each member of her community and wants to make a bright future for ALL. She and her husband Paul have three children and one special canine.

Wayne County Commissioners dressed in red on Thursday, Feb. 2, in support of National Go Red Day for women's heart health and declared February as American Heart Month throughout the county.'Heart disease is the largest cause of death among Americans.
