Fair Michigan Justice Project - LGBTQ Unit

Fair Michigan Justice Project is a Michigan non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of the LGBTQ community. It vertically prosecutes felony cases involving LGBTQ victims of crimes including Homicide, Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree, Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault. Qualifying cases involve felonies where LGBTQ victims have been targeted based on their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

This is a collaborative initiative between Fair Michigan and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office that seeks to build a public/private collaboration between the LGBTQ community and those that investigate and prosecute offenders.

The partnership was formed in August of 2016 with one part-time Special Assistant Prosecutor and one Fair Michigan Trans Advocate who provides assistance and support to transgender victims during the reporting process, appearances in court, and when transgender victims require safe housing after being victimized.
