On February 1, 2023, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged James Adam Baird, 44, of Plymouth, in connection with the sexual assault of a then 8-year-old Garden City girl who is now 10-years-old. He was also charged with the sexual assault of a then 8-year-old Dearborn girl who is now 11-years old. It was alleged that the assaults happened when he was working as a school vision specialist.

January 4, 2018 - Garden City, MI - A then 8-year-old Girl, now 10-years-old.

At approximately 12:00 p.m. at a school in the 6400 block of Hartel Street in Garden City, was alleged that Mr. Baird sexually assaulted the then 8-year-old victim while administering vision tests. He was charged with one count of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct - Person under 13. * As a result of information received in the case, further investigation was requested by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office of the Garden City Police Department. As a result of the police investigation, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office moved the court to dismiss all charges without prejudice. Visiting Judge Randy Kalmbach granted the motion to dismiss the case against Mr. Baird on June 28, 2023.

May 1, 2019 - Garden City, MI - A then 8-year-old, now 11-years-old.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., at a school in the 6400 block of Hartel Street in Garden City, it was alleged that Mr. Baird sexually assaulted the then 8-year-old victim. As a result of the police investigation the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office moved the court to dismiss all charges without prejudice. Prosecutor Worthy said, "Additional investigation that we requested from the Garden City Police Department was crucial to the decision in this case. We are certain that dismissing these charges was warranted. It is the right thing to do. We have no further comment, as there is pending civil litigation in connect with these matters."

Mr. Baird has two Westland cases 2023-22-707266 and 2023-22-707269-FY, scheduled for court hearings in 18th District Court before Judge Sandra Cicirelli, on July 5, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. A release will be sent out after the proceedings.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
