Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Grady Barrett, 42, (DOB: 03/07/1975), of Detroit, in connection with fleeing and eluding several law enforcement agencies during an Amber Alert. On August 1, 2017, it is alleged that Barrett, while armed, kidnapped a two-year-old infant girl, who was not his child, from the Detroit home of a relative of the mother. On the same day, an Amber Alert was issued and the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan State Police, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, as well as officers the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, attempted to stop Barrett at various points along the way. Barrett is alleged to have attempted to strike a MSP vehicle during the chase. On August 1, 2017 at 9:45 a.m., Barrett was apprehended and taken into custody by the police at Seven Mile and Meyers Roads in Detroit. The child was taken into protective custody by MSP and DPD at the scene of the arrest.

Barrett has been charged with Fleeing and Eluding 3rd Degree, Felonious Assault and Child Abuse 4th Degree*. Barrett was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 11, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court.
