Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Aron Miranda, 24, of Detroit, in connection with the Fentanyl overdose death of Jack McCarthy, 19, of Birmingham, MI.

On September 25, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Mr. McCarthy's lifeless body was found in his home in the 200 block of Westchester Street in Birmingham, Michigan. It is alleged that on September 25, 2021, at approximately 1:52 a.m., at a residence in the 4800 block of Lonyo Street in Detroit, Defendant Miranda sold Fentanyl to Mr. McCarthy causing his death. Investigation by the Birmingham Police Department led to the arrest of Defendant Miranda on March 12, 2024. More specific evidence will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Aron Miranda has been charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance Causing Death, a felony carrying life in prison or any term of years, Delivery/Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance Less than 50 Grams, a felony carrying a 20-year maximum penalty, and Felony Firearm, a felony carrying a two-year consecutive sentence.*

"We are pleased that the work of the Birmingham Police Department resulted in the arrest ,and now, the prosecution of Defendant Miranda in the death of Jack McCarthy," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea and given a $150,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 20, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 26, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
