Westland Man Charged in Connection with
Woman Found in Hines Park

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Anthony Kesteloot, 25 (DOB: 10/30/1993), in connection with the death of Olivia Rossi, 23, both of Westland. The defendant and Ms. Rossi were acquainted with each other.

On August 18, 2019, at 10:00 p.m., the defendant contacted Ms. Rossi, came to her house and picked her up in his truck. They eventually went back to the defendant's house in the 29150 block of Manchester in Westland. It is alleged that Ms. Rossi died at the defendant's home and that he took her lifeless body and disposed of it in a creek at Hines Park. Her body was recovered by Westland police officers in Hines Park on August 23, 2019. Investigation by the Westland Police led to the identification and arrest of the defendant. No further information will be given at this time because aspects of the investigation are ongoing.

Today, Defendant Kesteloot has been charged with Disinterment of a Dead Body, Obstruction of Justice, Removing a Dead Body, Failure to Report a Dead Body and Tampering with Evidence in a Criminal Case.*

Kesteloot was arraigned this morning in 18th District Court in Westland. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 5, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. before 18th District Court Judge Mark McConnell. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Sandra Cicirelli in 18th District Court in Westland. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Beating of Berkley Man

On July 31, 2019 Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Lawrence James Davis, 23 (DOB: 07/29/1995), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal beating of Tyler Jordan Wingate, 24, of Berkley, MI.

On July 22, 2019 sometime after 1:00 a.m., the victim and his passenger were driving northbound on Livernois Avenue when they crashed into another vehicle. The victim and the passenger exited the vehicle and walked into the gas station parking lot. It is alleged that the defendant struck the victim in the head and, after the victim fell, continued to strike him and kick him. The defendant then fled the scene on foot. At approximately 1:45 a.m. on the same day, Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of West Davison and Livernois Avenue in response to a call about a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers observed Mr. Wingate lying on the ground unresponsive, in the parking lot of a gas station located in the 13500 block of Livernois. The officers also observed two vehicles nearby with apparent accident damage. Medics arrived on the scene, and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Davis is charged with Open Murder.* His arraignment was held on July 31, 2019 and he was remanded to jail. The Preliminary Examination on August 30, 2019 before Judge Lynise Weeks Bryant in 36th District Court has been moved to 8:30 a.m. and is expected to be waived and bound over at that time.

Eighteen-Day-Old Infant Homicide Warrant - WCPO has received a warrant request in connection with the homicide of an 18-day-old infant that is currently being reviewed. A charging decision will not be made today. A press release will be sent out when a decision has been made.

Mother Charged in the Death of Eighteen-Day-Old Infant

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jaila Thomas, 22 (DOB: 08/11/1997) of Detroit, in connection with the death of her 18-day-old infant Lauren Williams. On August 26, 2019 at 5:30 a.m., it is alleged that the Defendant had been drinking and was alone in her apartment in the 19630 block of Schoenherr when she discovered her infant unresponsive, floating face down in the bathtub. Medics were called and pronounced the infant deceased. Investigation into the case led to the arrest and charging of Thomas in the homicide of her child. The infant died from drowning in the bath tub.

Thomas has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Child Abuse - Second Degree.*

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The alleged facts in this case are appalling. This baby was only in this world for eighteen days. Do I really have to say this? Don't attempt to care for any infant when you are intoxicated. This shouldn't happen if a person is "a little" intoxicated. Please don't do it."

Thomas was arraigned today at 10:30 a.m. before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 12, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 19, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $150,000 cash/surety bond. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.

Detroit Defendant Pierre Cleveland - Defendant charged in the fatal dog mauling of nine-year-old Emma Hernandez. Today the Probable Cause Conference was held before Judge Michael Wagner. He reduced the bond to $20,000 cash/surety 10%, with a GPS tether, no contact with any of the witnesses, and no possession of animals. WCPO will address the issue of bond again after the preliminary examination is held in the case. The preliminary examination was adjourned until September 18, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of the defense. Please contact the Wayne County Sheriff's Office to confirm whether the defendant has posted bond.

Detroit Cartier Lounge Shooting Case - WCPO has received a warrant request for this case that is currently being reviewed. It is unknown at this time if a decision and processing of the case will occur in time for arraignments today in 34th District Court in Romulus. An update will be sent out when the work is completed.
