Taylor Coupled Charged in Overdose Death of Their 10-Month-Old Great-Grandson

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Rebecca Ann May, 52 (DOB: 03/23/1966) and Quentin Roosevelt May, 65, (DOB: 12/23/1952), both of Taylor, in connection with the death of their 10-month-old infant great-grandson, Du'Wan Lanhan.

On October 5, 2017 at approximately 3:24 p.m., Taylor Police and Fire Department responded to a 911 call for assistant for a baby not breathing at a residence in the 5800 block of Wilkie Street in Taylor, MI. Upon arrival, the officers and fire department personnel discovered an infant on the floor while CPR was administered by a neighbor. Medics transported the infant to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. It was determined that the infant died from fatal ingestion of drugs prescribed to his great-grandparents.

It is alleged that the defendants failed to store and/or maintain their medications in a safe manner, which resulted in Du'Wan's death. It is also alleged that the defendants failed to provide a safe environment for their great-grandson.

The defendants have been charged with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter and one count of Child Abuse Second Degree*. Both defendants were arraigned in 23rd District Court today. Rebecca May received a $50,000 cash bond and Quentin May received a $250,000 cash bond. Their probable cause conference is scheduled on June 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.; their preliminary examination is scheduled for June 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
